The Festival Chorus (more recently re-named "Festiva") was created 30 years ago (1985) by
Musical Director, Roy Sarre, and grew rapidly to over 70 voices.
The Choir has had numerous successes over
the years. It has filled churches and concert halls nationwide and featured on BBC and ITV television programmes as well as
local radio. It has had notable successes in recent years in the Guernsey Eisteddfod and performs regularly in local events
such as the Liberation Day, Arts Sunday, Carols in Town Square and other Guernsey celebrations. A proud moment was when
the Choir took part in the 1,000 voice Choir at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and more recently a different 1,000 voice
choir in 2010 (see below). The choir has also sung with 400 Welsh voices in St David's Hall, Cardiff.
The Choir regularly tours Guernsey churches and performs annually in Sark.
2002, the
choir received a nomination for the Guiten Ambassador of the Year Award.
2003, the choir participated in "Voices
for Hospices".
2006, we featured in the BBC TV Songs of Praise programme and recorded three
broadcasts for BBC Radio 2 Sunday Half Hour.
May 9th 2010 the choir celebrated 65yrs since
Guernsey's liberation by singing in the unique "Guernsey sings on Maynine" with over 1,000
voices - an outdoor concert held in the North Beach Car Park.
The Choir has also recorded two live concert
CDs with the most recent Heart Sing produced in 2006. Details of all the CD's are
shown below.
The Choir has the support of many professional Christian artists and performers, notably Jeffrey
Howard, Rachael Howard and Kelvin Thomas, all from Wales, Alan McClure from Northern Ireland, and also Pam Rhodes
of the Royal Schools of Church Music and BBC TV Songs of Praise.
